Department of English - Nabinchandra College

Since the inception of Nabinchandra College in the year 1969, the department of English has been playing a vital role to the college's goal of offering top-notch humanities education. However, the honours course in English was introduced in the year 1985. Since then, the department is providing English language and literature training at the undergraduate level, emphasising the growth of students' linguistic proficiency, literary comprehension, critical thinking, and communication abilities. The department serves a broad student body seeking English fluency and an understanding of its literary traditions by contributing to both the Higher Secondary and Undergraduate (BA) English curriculum.

To foster in students a profound comprehension of English as a global language.
To develop in students a respect for literature from other traditions.
To cultivate the capacity for morally and successfully communicating in a globalised society.

TEACHING-LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

The English department at Nabinchandra College emphasizes interactive and student-centred pedagogy. Classroom instruction is supplemented with assignments, discussions, reading exercises, and performance tasks to enhance comprehension and expressive skills.
