Preserving, documenting, and showcasing the rich cultural and historical heritage of Barak Valley
The “NC. College Museum” Badarpur was established in 2025 with the aim of preserving, documenting, and showcasing the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Barak Valley region of Assam. The initiative reflects the college’s commitment to academic enrichment, community engagement, and the conservation of valuable historical resources that might otherwise be lost over time.
The museum houses a diverse collection of artifacts gathered from various sources, including local residents, historians, collectors, and nearby historical sites. Many of the items have been generously donated by members of the community who wished to contribute to the preservation of their cultural legacy. The collection includes objects of historical significance, traditional household items, agricultural tools, coins, manuscripts, handicrafts, photographs, and other materials that represent the socio-economic and cultural life of the region across different periods.
Special care has been taken to classify, document, and display the items in a systematic manner so that visitors can easily understand their historical context and relevance. The museum not only serves as a repository of artifacts but also as a centre for learning and research. It provides practical exposure to students, particularly those studying History and related disciplines, by allowing them to engage directly with primary sources and material culture.
The museum is open to all students, faculty members, researchers, and interested visitors. It functions as an academic support facility where learners can deepen their understanding of local history, traditions, and heritage beyond textbook knowledge. Researchers are encouraged to use the museum's collection for study and documentation, thereby contributing to further scholarly work on regional history.
By establishing this museum, NC. College has taken a significant step toward safeguarding local heritage and fostering a sense of historical awareness among the younger generation. The museum stands as a permanent effort to preserve the cultural identity of Barak Valley while promoting research, education, and community participation.
