Exploring the fundamental laws of nature through education and research
The Department of Physics was established in 2009 at the undergraduate (B.Sc.) level with the aim of providing a strong and broad foundation in science at Nabinchandra College, Badarpur.
The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) was introduced for the Three-Year Degree Course (TDC) in Physics from the academic session 2018–2019 and continued up to 2022–2023.
In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department has transitioned to the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) starting from the academic session 2023–2024.
The Department of Physics has a well-established laboratory equipped with a wide range of experimental apparatus and instruments to support undergraduate practical training. In addition to experimental teaching, the department is also engaged in computational materials science research using Density Functional Theory (DFT).
The department has consistently maintained academic excellence, and its students have secured rank positions in Physics under Assam University, Silchar, in the undergraduate (CBCS) programme.
