Department of History

The Department of history has been performing commendably since the inception of the College in 1969. The Department had been enriched in the past by the contributions made by the eminent teachers. From the very beginning both Honours and general courses are being taught by the department, initially under Gauhati University and later come under Assam University, Silchar in 1994. From 2018 to 2025 the department offers CBCS Courses. Currently, the department starts new FYUGP curriculum from the session 2023-24.

The Department of History has three permanent faculties and one Guest faculty. Teachers of the Department engage students through teaching and mentoring in the classroom as well as beyond the classroom. The department is also regularly engaged in serious academic exercises like invited lectures, seminars, showing documentaries and films, taking students to lectures by eminent historians, educational trips etc. The faculty specializes in a range of fields in History which allows them to play an important role in executing their academic responsibilities and consolidating the Department's academic traditions. Further, Faculty members regularly attend seminars, present research papers in national and international seminars and publish their papers in peer reviewed books and journals. Students of the department have won several prestigious awards in students' seminar held in other colleges. Overall, a healthy academic environment and a cordial teacher student relation are maintained in the department.
